Jake Berran (b. 2002) is a composer, pianist, conductor, percussionist, vocalist, and educator currently pursuing his master's degree in composition at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. Most recently, he earned an honorable mention in the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards for his piano piece Seven Regressions, he produced and released the cast recording of All In Your Mind, a new musical he co-wrote, and he served as Associate Conductor for the College Light Opera Company where he conducted Ruddigore and La Cage aux Folles. Berran grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music with a B.M. in Composition and a B.A. in Mathematics. His work ranges from contemporary classical solos to choral-orchestral works to chamber operas, musicals, film scores, and electronics. Berran's music has been performed by groups such as Sandbox Percussion, Kinetic Ensemble, White Snake Projects, Unheard-of//Ensemble, the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, Oberlin College Choir, and Minnesota Sinfonia.
